The incident seems to be resolved - but we are monitoring any failures for Karoo riders

The issue has returned. After the last update, my Strava uploads get "Strava client error" messages. I tried to disconnect and reconnect the account but that didn't work either.

Hi All, We don't see any failure on our servers and Client errors suggest issues at the other end. We are monitoring our servers too, but at this time there is no reason to believe it to be an issue on our end.

Tried uploading my ride for the last 38 minutes... having this issue as well. The ride will upload to Komoot and ride with GPS but not Strava specifically.

Just finished a ride and nothing showing on Strava for me.  I tried to push and re-upload and get a Karoo2 message that it already upload.  I'm seeing other devices rides today so not sure what's going on.

The issue has been there for the last two days. Incidentally when I updated with the new firmware.

This is not a Strava issue.  I skied this morning and biked in the afternoon.  Ski uploaded just fine from Slopes app but the ride did not from either the K2 or the Dashboard.

I disconnected my Strava account from Hammerhead and reconnected as well as restarted my K2, but nothing worked.   Any guidance would be appreciated.

I've also been having trouble uploading off and on for the last several days. I get the same errors others have reported, "Strava Client Error" when uploading from my Karoo 2, and when syncing from the Dashboard it fails with the "other error" message as reported by others.

The same ride synced to other services just fine, so while I recognize that this is not a Hammerhead-specific issue, I believe it is something that Hammerhead should be working with Strava to resolve long-term. My guess is that uploads from Hammerhead devices and the Dashboard get rate-limited or temporarily blocked for some reason, and that impacts all users trying to upload until Hammerhead devices are allowed again (by Strava).

Follow-up:. My rides started uploading to Strava this morning. I did submit a ticket and whatever the problem was, it was corrected for my account.

Update: my ride was uploaded. Just tried after reading the previous comment. Worked.

I suspect Keith's hit the nail on the head and HH is being limited on the Strava API. It seems to be struggling, intermittently, both pulling routes down from Strava and pushing activities up. Reauthenticating the connection doesn't seem to consistently resolve this situation. The intermittent nature also points toward something of this regard. I've not noticed any issues with Strava routes loading in VeloViewer which may suggest it's a Hammerhead<-->Strava issue, as opposed to simply a Strava issue (VeloViewer have also switched to loading routes in batches of 200, so perhaps a similar problem occurred there, forcing that change).

Follow-up - I was able to sync my ride via the dashboard just now...

Things may be more functional, currently, given all Euro activity is mostly done for the day (if API related). My Strava routes are now being pulled in, no issues.

Assuming it was a Strava issue I went to the dashboard, clocked the hamburger menu, downloaded the .fit file, opens Strava and uploaded the fit file so I didn't have to wait for Strava to fix it.

I don't think this is an issue with Strava, per se. A guess is that the rate limits are now being hit that has been arranged (or default limits) by HH and Strava, now the Karoo 2 is becoming more popular. The likely resolution being that HH will need to request (and likely pay) for a rate limit increase:

    https://developers.strava.com/docs/rate-limits/#:~:text=Strava%20API%20usage%20is%20limited,may%20need%20to%20be%20adjusted.

This situation is also probably likely as my ride today failed to upload to Strava, yet went straight to Xert then successfully up to Strava from Xert (via the Xert --> Strava API route, still within their agreed rate limit)

I have gotten this error many times (approaching a dozen now), but not every time. The old 'disconnect the account and re-attach it' business is a red herring, makes no difference. It certainly seems as though it is an issue with the Strava-Hammerhead connection, not Strava alone (since other devices upload easily to Strava when this error occurs), and not Hammerhead alone (since the Karoo 2 uploads to Ride with GPS with no issues each time). Rich Lovelock's diagnosis and recommendations above seem eminently plausible to me, a non-expert. I hope Hammerhead treats this problem with some priority and takes appropriate action: it is frustrating, and a significant regression to older tech, to have to manually upload an activity to Strava each time.

I only received my Karoo 2 yesterday. Went for a ride today and a few other issues aside, this happened to me. Kamoot and RideWithGPS uploaded ok, but Strava hasn't and its giving me the same errors as others have reported from both the unit and dashboard.

Shouldn't I see some mention of Hammerhead being connected to Strava account on the Strava site? I can see Garmin is connected, but not Hammerhead?

Hi guys, I'm having same issue right now. In the Browser Dev Window  I can see communication between Hammerhead dashboard trying to sync my ride with Strava and it is:

    1. code"unknown_error"
    2. message"something went wrong"
    3. partner"strava"

Upload to strava ends up with status 500

Are we to expect this to occur after EVERY update?  Or is this just the level of general service we should always expect?

Can't sync routes, Can't upload rides.

If it's not on Strava it didn't happen..  Or you own a Karoo.

Had the same problem yesterday before I updated. The second time I tried to sync from the dashboard it worked so I didn't have to resort to downloading the fit file. Otherwise I had the same errors you describe.

This issue is getting worse not better. Usually I could force it through a second upload, now the only way is via the .fit file. Please get this sorted out, is getting boring as a problem. Thanks.

Yep. Same with me. I am tired of all the bugs. My phone still continues to disconnect even after two software updates.

Same issue here - neither uploading from Karoo 2 device or the dashboard works.
