Micro - USB rubber plug protection/Silicone case

Hi,

This unit is in desperate need of a proper silicone case and/or better protection of the Micro USB socket.

The 2 rubber plugs that were shipped with K2 are wholly inadequate! On the 2 occasions I have used my K2 with the plugs fitted they have been lost during the ride, clearly fallen out due to the vibration. 

Being a mountain biker and living in the UK I now have a unit that has no protection from all the rain and mud flying about during a ride.

Please make a proper case, plugs that fit much more secure or build a proper flap into the case/chassis. In the mean time could you send me some more rubber plugs?

  Isn't it crazy though that we have to order plugs off of Aliexpress to "cover" a basic need: protecting the unit?

  no reply from the Karoo support team either...

  I'm starting to agree with you. I so badly want to like/keep this device, but I've never had to buy a bike computer, and then keep buying 3rd party "fixes" because the original product was inept/poorly designed. I've gone and bought an o-ring just so I could use the device on a 1/4 turn mount because the original was so wobbly.

  I'm not trying to pile on, but it's very frustrating. 

  Edit: Another suggestions that I saw on another forum is that you can also buy a USB-C charger where the port plug stays in the device and has a magnetic cord that connects for charging. This method looks like it wouldn't rattle out.

  You do not need a rubber plug protection on karoo 2. Implementation is the same like on all phones 2021. No protection for use c and they are all waterproof for 2 meters.

  Thanks JanZ. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why include them at all if they aren't needed? By including them it sort of implies that you could/should use them and that they serve a purpose.....and then when they fall out on the first ride, it naturally leads to some frustration.

  Hi Chris, we included them in the later batches only as goodwill after a few users reached out to us after muddy rides. The port is waterproof, and the plug only prevents the entry of mud and dirt.

  (we recommend not to charge immediately after a rainy ride)

  Water is not the issue as the port is waterproof but you do need the rubber plug, certainly in the UK. I accept these are not required on phones but then my phone is normally in a pocket and not constantly exposed to mud being thrown at it. 

  I first used my K2 without a plug fitted, stem mounted on a quarter turn mount, and there was mud over the port after the ride. After cleaning out there was still the slight sound of grit when inserting the charging plug!

  Exactly. Even if water or mud may not affect the device, it stills means that once you get home you have to clean up the port AND wait for it to dry out completely in order to safely plug a cable in.

  Too bad that the general tone of users here is "I'd like for the port to be protected" and the company's official response is "no, you think you do, but really you don't"

  So this my solution - I got one it these Magnetic Cable

  The small usb-c plug stays always in the Karoo and basically I only attach the cable to it and voilà

  Entièrement d'accord avec Pec, vtt ou route l'humidité et la boue finiront par détériorer la connexion usb. En attendant une solution sérieuse, j'ai posé du scotch électricien sur le bandeau du gps que je décolle en partie pour le branchement ...

  Je peux recharger directement après une sortie. La connexion usb est toujours propre

  Je fais majoritairement du vtt ..
