@Perchera, we will be looking into this in future but as of now, there are two main challenges related to crashes and battery drain. This is not a high priority item as of now, and we have a similar discussion going on in here: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/360037772633-Second-Map-screen

@Ali I am making it my mission to get this feature implemented, and I am at a loss why you folks still insist on thinking that we (riders) want two maps in the same layout (i.e. susceptible to crashes and battery drain). We want to be able to use multiple layouts that include a single map in the same profile!

I proposed this, but, if having 2 maps means draining your battery of course i don't want it either.

Anyways, if it is an optional thing i don't think it should be a problem for those willing to have one map card only, no need to make a mission against it, just give users the choice to use more than one map card if they want to or to not use them if they don't want to.

In fact i am sending back my karoo. The map is simply useless for me. The moment i leave my town it seems i am riding an old "incongnita terrae" map. There is nothing in the map, minor roads, gravel paths, hiking paths, they all look like the same thing. No elevation contours. No peak/mountains names and elevation. If you want to venture into an unknown area the map will be useless, you will need to open your phone and any other app to see a real map.

Why? Maybe the karoo is intended for roadies who always have road signs. Not a device for offroad mountain biking.

    regards

@perchera, what region are you located in where you're having this issue?

South Eastern Spain, Granada and Almería, i opened another thread to discuss this and posted some screenshots, the karoo map is just too basic

See my post and screenshots: https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/1260801900349-Raster-maps-contour-lines

No way that one can venture in the mountains with a map like that

@perchera have you had the opportunity to see what the other brands like Wahoo and Garmin offer in this similar region? I'm curious what the difference would be.

oh yes, nothing to do, i posted screenshots of twonav and wikiloc in that thread, and here's one of Garmin*, same area:

edit: and believe me, i know these maps are based on osm and not all regions have the same contributions and not all regions are that good, but i've seen the osm map of this area and it is much better than the karoo's.

Anyway, not my fault that a given region is empty in osm, karoo need to provide alternatives. And, in any case, HH should not delete so many elements of the original osm.

@Brandon, here in Spain we're lucky to have the National Geographic Institute that provides maps for free. If you know a bit of map making you can create your own maps easily (raster or vector). Programs like Mobac for windows can also create maps from many sources in the world in many different formats, but of course the gps device or the app in mobile must be compatible with some of those formats (rmap, ecw, jnx, sqlite...), same with Global Mapper, super powerful tool for map making, but, if the karoo ties you to it's only one map...
