I've been seeing similar issues.  That picture looks oh so familiar.  I've also had "failed to load ride" pop up on the screen in the middle of a ride with a "proceed" button which resulted in complete lock down.  I've done two factory resets.  Removed all saved routes.  Hoping this might free up some memory and fix this issues.  NO LUCK.  My Karoo first gen was excellent.  This one was good until a recent software update.  Can Hammerhead please take back these software updates?

No offense, but WHY in the whole world would you even lay your bike on the computer? I mean honestly. Like do you also put your phone into back pocket and sit on it? I guess not.

I don't think that HH's fault that users are lacking common (technical) sense. But as I said, no offense.

Unlike Marco, I've never leaned anything against my computer.  My Karooo has gone nuts after the last software update.

In the interests of balance, my Karoo 2 has been very stable after the last software update and - in general - the last few updates have been much better than previous offerings.

However, it seems you have found a bug here which is that when buttons A and B are held down, the Karoo 2 reboots (but seems to take longer to reboot than normal so I'm not sure if it's doing something special).

Unfortunately, I don't think you can blame Hammerhead software for leaning your bike - by the buttons on your cycle computer - against a post. I don't know what the issue is with Scott's device.

@Martin, obviously it was not intentional. My point is that a good test coverage would avoid situations like this.

I also work in the HW/FW wearable space and I can guarantee that it is a common practice to have hard resets only with simultaneous pressing on more than one switch, specifically to avoid these issues.

If your phone froze because you put it in pocket and pressed the power button for 30s you would not be happy.

I've also sat on my phone. FWIW.

    Hey All,

Thank for you posting here and weighing in here!

Looks like the initial reboot of the Karoo was caused due to the power button ( button B) being pressed for more than 15 seconds. I would urge you to avoid lean your bike in such positions so you do not lose out on your data unnecessarily :)

However, we have made note of the concern over the second reboot that occurred when a combination of buttons were pressed. We have received similar reports by other users as well and our team is working proving a resolution ASAP :)

Yesterday while on a ride I looked down and saw my Karoo 2 showing the splash logo screen although I had not touched it. I gave it a while to clear but nothing happened so I pushed the lower left button to reboot the unit. When it came back on I got the message that the ride could not be retrieved and hit proceed. I then discovered that all data was gone - profiles, sensors, rides, etc. and that I could neither navigate or record anything because my login information had been wiped out and I wasn’t near a WiFi connection. I had to do a full factory reset when I got home. If this happens again I’m switching to Wahoo

    1. Powered on the karoo 2
    2. Loaded this route: Wednesday-Night - 36.5 mi - 2318 ft
    3. Set off on my ride and spotted that I had no Power or Heart rate data
    4. Turned off/on the sensors from the dropdown dashboard, but still no data
    5. Turned off/on the sensors from the dropdown dashboard and waited longer this time, but still no data
    6. Ended the ride and saved the data. That is the file I have uploaded and is displayed in the screenshot
    7. Rebooted the device and loaded the Wednesday-Night - 36.5 mi - 2318 ft. I know it's not Wednesday :-)
    8. Sensors and route loaded OK
    9. Did about 34 miles of the route and saved the ride OK
    10. Then hit record again to do a Warm down, all OK
    11. Arrived home and ended the ride. Clocked save and the device rebooted
    12. It the prompted me to login to the cloud. I then did that OK
    13. Clicked on the list of rides to do a manual upload/sync to training Peaks & Strava but the TWO main rides are missing
    14. Then clicked my routes and they are ALL missing. See photo for more

RIDE 1 = Would not find sensors, saved ride and rebooted. This file did save and I have attached it
RIDE 2 = 34 ish miles and is missing from device
RIDE 3 = My warm down is also missing from the device
