Power balance not recording
Answered-
Waking up this thread, I downloaded by FIT file from the Hammerhead dashboard and inspected it. L/R balance is not in the FIT file of my rides. I am using Golden Cheetah to inspect the source FIT file data. In fact, looking back in my ride history, L/R balance has never been in the FIT file recorded by my Karoo 2.

Thanks for sharing that. I can confirm that Favero is working well, as I use it on my rides and can see my L/R data recorded. Could you please share the FIT file of the recent ride with us over email to support@hammerhead.io?

I was viewing the FIT file through a couple of data viewers. However, I tried a tool I have not used in the past and sure enough, the balance is in the data.
Used this tool, in case anyone else might benefit from it: https://www.fitfileviewer.com/
Thanks.

I've done some more research on this, and it may be the case that the K2 handling of the data and storing in the FIT file is not per the ANT+ FIT specification.
Some apps/devices include an L/R Balance field incorrectly encoded according to the FIT specification, which requires the right bit set to 1:

If the K2 is not setting the right bit set to 1, then many software importers will not handle it and not show L/R balance.
For example, Garmin Connect will not show L/R balance because of this, and this is one of the test sites I used.
Can you confirm if this is the case with the K2?

The L/R bit is optional, does the Karoo 2 do anything with it? I'm assuming no, so the default is unknown, and hence not valid. This is why uploading the FIT file to Garmin Connect is not importing the L/R data.
Given that you know that both pedals are transmitting as evidenced by the data in the FIT file, can you not default this to a valid value so that the GC importer will accept the L/R data?
I would think you would want to be compatible with Garmin as it is the 2nd most used platform behind Strava. Many Karoo users load their activities up to GC because they have many years of activity history, and their analytics capabilities have steadily become more powerful, including Balance among many other items. Plus the Hammerhead dashboard doesn't even show Balance info.

Ali, Hammerhead is not in bad company with this. When Wahoo first implemented pedal balance and pedal dynamics, they had the same issue, and resolved it in time. This issue has been submitted by others in the past.
I'd be happy to submit FIT files from my ride today from both my Garmin and K2. Perhaps your developers can compare and see how they differ in this area.
