Touchscreen action without touching the screen
AnsweredI have a brand new Karoo 2 and on my 2nd ride the problem started. During the ride without touching the screen (it was a sunny day, no rain or sweat on the screen) the content of the screen changed wildly. It was basically flickering between the map and the data screen, sometimes it activated the lap button icon when on the data page and sometimes it was zooming in and out on the map screen. It was like somebody was randomly touching the screen. When I tried to touch the screen e.g. to end the ride it wouldn't react on that. At home I made further tests and the problem appeared also e.g. in the setting menu (it was wildly scrolling up and down without touching the screen), or in the pull down menu.
Things I tried to resolve the problem: Cleaned the screen and restarted the device without success. Then I made a factory reset, no success. Today (June 17th) I updated the device with the latest software update and still the same issue.
I am lost here and need support! The device is unusable like that and I have to return it in case this cannot be resolved.

Along the same lines twice this week (so current and previous firmware releases) I've had the screen go from data fields to the map once and from the map to data fields once on a different ride. Neither time was it humid or was the screen in any way damp or contaminated. I just looked down and to my amazement it had changed screens. I was able to simply swipe back to the other screen in both situations, nothing was locked up and no data was lost. FWIW these were not rides on stored routes and I was 40km or more into 70-80km excursions both times when it happened..

Hey Michael,
Thanks for posting. it is rather odd to see the karoo reacting to phantom touches on your ride, I see that Abhishek is working along with you to provide a solution for your issue.
If anyone else is facing something similar I would urge them to please submit a request with us so we can assist you further :)

Hi Francois,
I see that you have raised a ticket with us on this issue. I have requested some information regarding the issue. Kindly response over onto the ticket so that we can resolve it for you, sooner.
Don't worry, we will work through this to resolution of your issue with your Karoo 2 unit. :)

I receive my new Karoo 2 two days ago, today during my first ride this issue started. Very annoying.
It seem that the device wants to swipe to the left in some specific windows like settings. But worst of all is that in the main data pages, after 2 km it started to flip randomly from one page to the other, without touching the screen, with no rain, nothing. Map zoomed out, data pages changed every 2 seconds...
At the beginning it seemed to be related to the pressure that the mounting systems makes in the rear face of the Karoo while mounted, because the crazy behavior stopped when I removed the device from the bike. But after 4 or 5 time, I discover that the problem was not related to that, and that the ramdom flipping and strange touchscreen behavior was present also while keeping the Karoo 2 in my hand and not in the bike.Is there an official solution to this?
thanks

I have the same issue. My second ride. The screen started switching between the map and data pages, the map page was zoomed out to the max, and the “settings” menu was scrolling on its own. I am about to submit a ticket, but wanted to share it here too. Very frustrated as I just received the device and the first ride was great! Really strange.

Hi Julian and Anton,
we are slow to respond right now due to high volume of tickets but we will get back to you as soon as possible. But it sounds like you might be facing the same issue as above and we will get you a replacement send out. While we are working through the backlog, it might help us if you can try these steps.
- try creating a new profile and ride on that
- try a factory reset and ride after thatPlease let us know the results of these on the same ticket so we know you have tried everything and it might help us with lesser back and forth conversations.

I’ve sent a reply to the same ticket but thought that I would also share it here.
I have now made factory reset and created a new ride profile and unfortunately can confirm that this has NOT solved the issue.
Practically immediately following the beginning of the ride, the devise began switching pages and zooming out the map.
In addition, I have realized that the climber function didn’t activate even on the longest and steepest climbs; the Strava live segments have also never activated during the three rides I’ve done before and after the reset.

Same here. Today started 2500km EU road trip with a brand new karoo 2 that swaps screens when ever it likes too. Out of desperation made a one page profile with a map. I still see it wants to swap pages at bottom of screen. This is unusable like this. Please let me know solution ASAP. Thanks.

Same here, brand new Karoo 2, first ride with it and the data screens on the display just started changing randomly, sometimes every few seconds. This was on a clear, dry day. No amount of swiping or button pushing could get it to stay on just one screen. Absolutely frustrating, especially after spending the better part of a day syncing sensors, creating profiles for multiple bikes, and customizing screens. EDIT: Customer service (specifically Bijit) was great - three days after contacting them they approved a warranty replacement, and hopefully it gets here soon.

I have found that what really happens is that you press the right button on bumps.
I share two videos that I have recorded.

I have the exact same issue with my brand new Karoo 2 that I bought end of June 2023. During my first ride, the data screens on the display also started changing randomly and sometimes very fast. I opened a support ticket at Hammerhead. Following an advice from Franklin, I did perform a hard reset this evening but the issue is still there. Next to watching the videos provided by Pablo Rodriguez, I did perform some further testing. It seems that Pablo Rodriguez is right: this is happening when the Karoo 2 is secured on its bike holder. I was right now able to reproduce this phenomenon after clipping the Garmin adapter provided by Hammerhead. It seems that the pressure generated by the holder might be the cause.

Same here (2 days old). I send it back to dealer/reseller. It is a perfect device however with this bug it is useless. Also send a mail to Hammerhead because it seemed it was software related.
11 sep: Just been told that is get a new device I really hope that I had just a Monday morning Karoo (bad batch). Fingers crossed

I joined the club today, I went for a ride and I couldn't follow the route, I had to use my gps watch, the Karoo was switching from one screen to another, non-stop, unusable... I bought it 3 months ago.... I sincerely hope that the problem will be solved, according to the forum it's been 2 years already.

I have the same issue and it's started August 2023. Logged a ticket and Abhishek, from the support team, suggested that I delete the profile and recreate it. Seems to fix the issue but then it re-emerged a day ago. I replied to my old ticket and Ashish suggested a hard reset. Did a hard reset today and went for a test ride and the issue is still there. Replied to Ashish with video footage showing how the screen auto toggles by itself. Waiting for a response. I ordered my Hammerhead Karoo 2 through Suunto's website in July 2022. Suunto and Hammerhead had a partnership. REALLY hoping I can get this resolved ASAP as it really not enjoyable riding like this.

I received a replacement Karoo 2 yesterday and on my first ride this morning I had the same issue. Scrolling across pages, map page zoomed right out. I put on screen lock and it still scrolled. I am using the Garmin adapter with a few squares of electrical tape in the Garmin mount to tighten the connection as it doesn't feel secure enough. I noticed a few have commented the pressure could be the cause so will try it without the tape on the way home from work.
I really don't want to return the unit as I've just went over a week without my last one waiting for the replacement to arrive.
