Feature request: option for default map orientation
AnsweredSo I've been using the Karoo 2 for about 3000 km now and while I generally like the unit a lot, this one thing just drives me crazy. I have yet to figure out how to change the map orientation to work the way I want (north is up) without any number of missteps on the way (and yes, I have read the instructions, which clearly do not match how the software is currently functioning).
Having to do this while moving (because of the lack of feedback while standing still as it defaults to north is up in either mode) does not make things any easier and indeed potentially creates a safety hazard, the only positive development I can think of is that at least I no longer have to take my glove off to operate the touchscreen because of the warmer weather...
Specifically, the operation seems to not achieve the desired result in one of the following ways:
- the compass icon goes away (so clearly something happens) but the map still keeps rotating
- map stops rotating but the orientation is stuck at something other than north is up (I think this one only started happening after an update a month or two ago)
- map stops rotating and north is up, but map no longer follows my location (so left in unlocked state by accident I guess)
The last two are at least easy to remedy by pressing the lock icon enough times, but it’s the first one that is most common and most random and frustrating (and usually the next step forward from there is one of the last two).
Clearly there is some debugging and UX work to be done (like making the icons indicate the state of each option (lock/rotate/follow) clearly and reliably, the lock icon is at least trying to do that but the difference is way too small to see), but I would be happy to not have to deal with this at all and just get a default orientation toggle under settings and forget about it. Probably much easier to implement as well...

D'oh! Thanks, that should have been pretty obvious, and I'd think I would have tried that already at some point with questionable success, but anyway it worked fine today at least with no route active (not the easiest thing to test as I already said...).
The documentation seems to be incorrect or at least unclear, specifically the second screenshot animation on https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360051734414--Unlocking-the-Map-and-viewing-the-nearby-areas- displays the compass icon (pointing north=up) with either orientation.
All the same, I would still prefer to just get a setting for the default and not have to do this every time either at the start of the ride or at the point I realize I actually need to consult the map (if any).
