D'oh! Thanks, that should have been pretty obvious, and I'd think I would have tried that already at some point with questionable success, but anyway it worked fine today at least with no route active (not the easiest thing to test as I already said...).

The documentation seems to be incorrect or at least unclear, specifically the second screenshot animation on https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360051734414--Unlocking-the-Map-and-viewing-the-nearby-areas- displays the compass icon (pointing north=up) with either orientation.

All the same, I would still prefer to just get a setting for the default and not have to do this every time either at the start of the ride or at the point I realize I actually need to consult the map (if any).

It'd be very nice if _all_ the map settings would persist.
Currently I have to zoom out, swipe to my preferred 3d angle etc each ride. Not a massive deal but still.

Yeah, agree, I also always zoom out something like 3–4 steps, would be nice if I didn’t have to do it every time. (Plus now we’re back in full-finger glove season...)

But at least changing the orientation has worked like a charm now that I know how to actually do it.

Hmm, weird, mine always starts zoomed-in. You're saying yours gets saved across reboots if you put it on middle zoom level?

Nope. Just tried it. Reverts to zoomed-in after finishing ride and starting a new one.

I press and hold the top left button to zoom out. Looks like my usual settings are either 3 or 4 levels up (3 is what you can also get with the bottom left button), the maximum seems to be 7.

I already said that that button does not give the zoom level I prefer to use (except if in an urban area where I actually might use the map for navigation). If I need to search something on the map, I just use the unlock function.
