Maps not useable for MTB - Information removed
Hello,
I am using the Karoo with my MTB. It is not showning: MTB difficulty, different surfaces (except on a very broad level), all the important information for MTB users is taken from the map.
This MTB difficulty information is particularly useful if either you go without a pre loaded track or if there are obstacles and you have to find a decent way around.
That is such a pity, that only road racers are targeted by Hammerhead. It is so sad.
There has been a workaround, using custom inofficial stylesheets, showing the MTB difficulty, but even that is not longer possible, as all the information is stripped from the maps, in an effort to exclude MTB riders even more I assume, as this information really takes only negligible extra space.
Thumbs down for such an ignorance.

This could be down to the map information available in your area. I use it extensively in Surrey Hills and South Downs and the mapping is more than adequate for my needs i.e. it shows where the trails are. It doesn't tell me the surface or if there are obstacles, but no maps that I've ever found do.

Hi Stephen, have a look at OpenAndroMaps and the Elevate style for MTB. Available e.g. by using Locus Maps or Orux Maps, Vectorialmaps or Backcountry Navigator or many other apps. I would consider those state of the art. Really an eye opener, because all this information is already available. Even on OpenMTBmaps for Garmin, which I would consider the toughest competitor

Yes, side loading is possible, I have been using Oruxmaps on the Karoo, all free. Still it is tedious having all the maps twice on the device (for Karoo and Oruxmaps). Also juggling with different systems concerning tracks, logs etc. is suboptimal. Native support would put the Karoo on a different level.
