This could be down to the map information available in your area. I use it extensively in Surrey Hills and South Downs and the mapping is more than adequate for my needs i.e. it shows where the trails are. It doesn't tell me the surface or if there are obstacles, but no maps that I've ever found do.

Hi Stephen, have a look at OpenAndroMaps and the Elevate style for MTB. Available e.g. by using Locus Maps or Orux Maps, Vectorialmaps or Backcountry Navigator or many other apps. I would consider those state of the art. Really an eye opener, because all this information is already available. Even on OpenMTBmaps for Garmin, which I would consider the toughest competitor

I've never seen those before, I suppose thats what you get when you're tied to the Apple ecosystem. Have you tried sideloading the app and maps?

Yes, side loading is possible, I have been using Oruxmaps on the Karoo, all free. Still it is tedious having all the maps twice on the device (for Karoo and Oruxmaps). Also juggling with different systems concerning tracks, logs etc. is suboptimal. Native support would put the Karoo on a different level.
