Do you like the new "in-ride look"?
I always try to be positive about new user interfaces. I always try to recognize the advantages of new UIs. In my previous job I designed a lot of UIs.
But this new updated UI does not work for me. The legacy UI was a very good looking UI (It had some roughness, but was a nice, modern UI). The new rounded corner boxes are pointless, the grey background color is ugly, and not harmonic. The legacy UI was much more modern this new UI is just old fashioned and outdated. The large upcoming elevation graph black background on a black screen looked very good, the new grey graph is just ugly. The legacy UI gave higher contrast feeling, the new grey color brings low contrast feeling.
My suggestions for Hammerhead are rethink and tweak this new UI and/or make an option to use the legacy UI (my main buying decision to Karoo was the good looking UI). The best would be it you keep the style of the legacy UI and make small updates and error corrections on it. It the new boxes layout is a must have (for future functions), you have a much more better way to design a boxed layout.
Please review this new UI!
What do you think?

Just adding my voice to the crowd. I was very excited to see a new in ride ui. It's been along time since HH changed anything, I was hoping for larger data text and better use of the white space. Instead they have shrunk the the text. I think they need some older testers without 20/20 vision, this would have been picked up in the 1st beta.

I agree with HH that there are some improvements to be made to the in-ride UI. I never felt that HH was using the great screen to the fullest. The in-ride readability has always been a little worse compared to my previous Wahoo Bolt.
I'm very happy that I found this topic prior to updating, this is absolutely a huge step back. I don't understand how this has survived quality testing. HH does not need to re-invent the wheel, just look at Wahoo's in-ride UI and take over some of its great aspects. And please, please ditch the updated UI asap so I can update my K2 again.

Please, an option to return to the previous UI, now I don't distinguish the small fields on the bike. For those of us who are over 40 and cycling, these backwards UI changes do not contribute anything. Very disappointed with the direction hammerhead is taking, I hope they listen to the users.

I'd like to see what happens next, but I'm not sure to "make some of this adjustable" is a solution. It's the whole new UI that is wrong, and for several different reasons.
And, honestly, I don't understand this at all. The Karoo has been making plenty of noise for a while and, with the new price, I'm sure HH is selling them as fast as they can make them. This update solves no problem and is such a clear step backward in legibility that I can't imagine how this went to production.

The worst part, for me, are the new data labels. I much prefer a simple one-line abbreviation, in a subdued color, much smaller in size than the actual data. As others have pointed out, the new two line labels make it hard to simply glance down and see my data. I don't need or want long labels like "DISTANCE REMAINING", "LAP DISTANCE", and the most ridiculous "KAROO BATTERY".
Please get rid of the two line data labels.

@Kristóf Szabó I love it.!!!!!! BRAVO!!!
And for note, I would give the option to hide the top bar (which would appear with the autopause), and I would think of another solution for the spin sign, which takes up a lot of space... but that's another story... Something tells me that those of HH are not going to do anything. They'll leave us with a tantrum here... They're no longer an accessible working group. I see it coming :/
P.D: Perhaps Valter or someone who knows how to program with the karoo SDK, I make a #DIY similar to Garmin IQ. And to be able to have the texts and fields large and used.

Ali’s answer is a stock answer. I received the exact reply word for word. What a joke! With one update after several uneventful updates Hammerhead has managed to make the Karoo 2 the absolute worst cycling head unit on the market. Ali’s stock response is robotic and only confirms how quickly out of touch Hammerhead is becoming.

@ Kristóf Szabó
That looks great! It is prettier, much more readable and actually uses the space! Are you looking for a job by any chance? I think Hammerhead needs to replace some people in their team.I would love an option to highlight single fields such as HR or Power as Wahoo does or color coded fields in the future.

Had my first ride with the new UI today, gotta say, I even like the squares with rounded corners. Just the ratio of field label to the actual metrics is not good. The metrics are indeed much harder to read and I have good vision. I really like the progress data field. A data field with percentage of the route completed would be also pretty cool.
I am not sure if this was an actual change or if it was like this before the new UI - when a fast car approaches me and I get a red Varia notification, the car is now shown in white and it looks like an angel is coming to take me to the other side.

Over the 2 years I’ve had my Karoo 2, I’ve come to respect HH. They do a lot of things right, frequent updates, implements requested features (sometimes) and overall feel heard. This updated UI is garbage, yes. How will HH handle this is what I’m interested in. And if this truly is the future of the Karoo (and Karoo 3) I will be looking at the other 2 brands hard. I don’t want to, I’ve loved my Karoo 2. Please fix HH!

There has to be someone in charge of HH who reads this and takes action on the matter. I hope they fix this in 15 days. It is clear that it is the most important thing that users ask for.
And there should be a beta channel where users could contribute. And don't release an update that you can't go back from. This HH policy is abhorrent -
I hope all these comments will make Hammerhead change to improve the readability of the data.
Right now, the numbers are too small for me. I have a race tomorrow and I will use my old elemnt Bolt: I can't afford not to be able to read the data easily.
Please Hammerhead, do something and listen to the users. I'm really annoyed by this update.

It's beyond words when it comes to significant usability changes that HH can't even draft a handful of UI designs for the COMMUNITY to vote on, considering it's the community who actually buy and use the devices. Maybe that's too much common sense for HH to comprehend 🤷♂️
@Kristóf awesome tweaking 👊

Gracias.
