Kremote extension
Sure! Here's the translation:
Dear all, I would like to introduce an extension that allows you to use an external remote (ANT+ compatible) to swipe between screens. This is very useful if you want to have different layouts in your karoo and swipe fast and with safety.

I've released version 2.1 of kremote. Now, apart from fixing some small bugs it had, it allows you to perform all the effects of the Karoo (that is, not only left, right, etc., but also marking turns... and especially zoom in - zoom out, which helps quite a bit with the Karoo)... and it incorporates the possibility of double tap, meaning two presses perform another action :)
Next week I’ll add bell sound ;)
-
I tried it this weekend on my Garmin remote. Both single and double tap. Worked like a dream. Please advise, if there is a function that can push 'information draws' down off the screen? I.e. Strava Segments, etc. at the moment I have to swipe down to clear them. Great app. Really appreciated.

Enderthor - Brilliant. I was using the Left button for 'Screen Left' but I will now configure it as the 'Back' button. Thank you. There are usually so many notifications that stay on screen that I cannot see where I am going! Great App. Double click for 'Bell' is going to be ace :)

Hi, maybe it is just me but I find it still too often laggy by 2-3sec. And whenever during rides i do not use the Garmin remote for some time (some minutes), kremote does not react anymore. I tried two garmin remotes and still I do not see reliable instant reaction. Eventually I am more distracted from looking at the road being forced to figure out when kremote will react to my button presses than to press directly a button on the Karoo. I returned the Garmin remotes. Sorry, just honest feedback. Still I very much appreciate your work.

Hello Rent, first.. thanks for your feedback.
I suppose your needs are a little different from us. Delay is around 0.8 - 1.5 seconds when you don't have Double Tap Enabled and Ride detection 1 - 2.5 when you have it.
This is because Garmin Remote (and ANT and Karoo) introduces some minor delay around (400-700 ms) and kremote checks some conditions (around 400- 600 more). If you have several extensions loades times can be higher (because Karoo has a limited memory/capacity available). These times are in Karoo 3, I don't know in karoo 2.
I think these times are ok for standards circuntances, but If you need something without lack, this is not posible at this moment (and I doubt can be possible because remotes and GPS have some minor lags)
Thanks for your feedback

I've delivered new version. It's the same but you can select two different Bell sounds... Bell sounds aren't a real bell sound, the problem is Karoo has a buzzer and we only "play" with frequency and duration.. we cannot use amplitude.. then... it's complicated.. if you have some proposal, please ;)

Hi Enderthor,
good stuff! I am using the 2.2 version and hoped to for a bit of luck:
I'am trying to use the Towild ALC-01 Ant+ remote. While it gets detected and added to Kremote, the learning does not work as the keys on the remote do not trigger any learning or action. Any idea what I could to or change? Thank you for your work! -
Thanks for your extension!
I've bought a Garmin Edge Remote to use it with my Karoo 3. It works but I've found two problems:
- After a restart of my Karoo 3 the remote is no longer recognized. If I press a button the LED flashes green for 30 seconds, afterwards the LED is red for 3 seconds. Starting the kremote extension doesn't solve the connection problem, I have to make any change on the mapping screen (eg. Force Screen On), afterwards the next button press on the remote establishes the connection and then the remote works.
- I tried to disable the double tap feature. On the mapping screen it is shown as deactivated, but in reality double tap is still active. This avoids to use the remote with reduced lag (0.8 - 1.5 seconds as you mentioned in an earlier post). Depending on the double tap delay the total lag is 2.1 - 3.1 seconds for me.
Can you have a look on these issues? Thanks!
Two more questions:
- Who has the remote and a Garmin Edge GPS device? Is there a similar lag?
- Is it possible to use a long press with the remote? One of the three buttons lets the LED flash green as long as you press the button, maybe this button can be used for a long press action (similar to the buttons at the Karoo)

Hello... I am trying to get a set of SRAM Wireless Blips to work with a Hammerhead Karoo 2. While these remotes are supported directly on the Karoo 3 they are not supported on the 2 (at least as far as I can tell - would love to hear otherwise!). In the AXS app I can assign these blip buttons to "ANT+ Function" 1 through 9, I just can't get kremote to recognize these functions. kremote seems to recognize the remote(s) but it will not learn any of the buttons/functions. Any chance of enabling this feature?? (I really can't believe that the Karoo SW does not just recognize this natively...)

I installed version 2.2. The Garmin Edge Remote button was added correctly, and I configured actions for all three buttons (Next Page, Bell, Control Center). Unfortunately, none of the buttons perform their assigned actions. Additionally, I have a Karoo 3 with software version 1.563.2165.20.

I managed to get the Garmin Remote working. I assigned the buttons, and they respond—there’s a slight delay, but it works.
However, another issue has come up: the remote doesn’t always connect. I’m out riding, activity is running on the Karoo 3, but the Garmin Remote just doesn’t work—no reaction at all from Karoo. A restart would probably fix it, but I couldn’t do that without losing my ride data and activity.
Next day, I head out for another ride. This time I double-check that the Garmin Remote is connected—great, it’s working. I start riding.
About 30 minutes in, I try to ring the bell—nothing. I try to switch the screen—again, no response. Then, suddenly after a full minute, Karoo plays the bell sound. A moment later, the screen changes. The lag continues like this for the rest of the ride, making the Garmin Remote practically unusable. Every button press is so delayed that it’s not functional. I’m not sure what the issue is, but I’m seriously considering returning the Garmin Edge Remote while I still can—this just isn’t worth the hassle :/

Hello! Kremote is optimised (but I try to optimise more every new release). Kremote has a problem and the problem is if you've your karoo full loaded (sometimes if you've a few/lot extensions) kremote doesn't work fine.. but you'll have a problem with kremote and with your sensors (some messures won't work fine etc). The problem is Karoo is not the most powerful device and if you use a lot of extensions (or your karoo has some performance issues) your remote devices will have some lags.. If you have some lags with your HR strip or with your powermeter, probably you don't detect anything (because these devices emits every few seconds) but lag problems has a big impact with a remote

Thanks for great work and all the KApps!
I'm wondering if KRemote would work with an old MFI Lumex Pro Helmet remote I have lying around.
The remote is recognized and paired with the KRemote app via ANT+ but it looks that there isn't any reaction to any of the buttons nor is it possible to learn.
Any insight would be great, thanks.

Hi,
I ran a few tests and here’s what I found. As for extensions, I had VIN-HKE and PowerBar installed — and of course KRemote. Nothing else.
After starting up the Karoo 3 and beginning a ride, the Garmin Remote initially worked fine. There was the usual “lag,” but just a second or so — which is acceptable. However, over time, the lag gets worse. So I started removing extensions. First, I uninstalled VIN-HKE and restarted the Karoo 3. Unfortunately, that didn’t help — the remote worked fine at first, but then the same issue came back. I then removed PowerBar, but that didn’t solve the problem either. The lag keeps increasing during the ride, eventually reaching 3–4 minutes. Yes — after 4 minutes, the screen started changing and the bell rang. Completely useless :)
For context, the accessories I have connected are: SRAM AXS Apex drivetrain, Polar H10 heart rate monitor, and Wahoo TRACK Radar. All of these work flawlessly, without any lag — not even minor.
I’m planning to do another test without taking the Wahoo radar and the heart rate monitor, just to check that scenario. But I’m not sure it makes sense, as I do intend to use those devices regularly.
As you can see, even with all extensions removed (leaving only KRemote installed), the problem still occurs.
The Garmin remote becomes responsive again after restarting the KRemote extension — but the lag returns after a few or several minutes. -
Hi,
I own a Garmin Remote and would like to get it run on Karoo 3. I would like to use it just for page swap.
However when KRemote have been installed the garmin remote has been found and inserted. But thats all. After configuration of the buttons to page left or right or bell nothing happens in my profile.
Do I have to change something. Looking around this thread the problems seem to be not identical. But I am wandering what have been done at those riders where it worked.
Thanks For your support

Hello
@Miljenko I don't have your remote and it's difficult to test, but teorically if the remote is linked you can map every buttom. Kremote use standard ANT library, then if your remote use standard commands they have to work. If you want, try to map.. and describe what you're doing to map buttoms.
@marcin
I don't know what it's happen in your case. I've tested with my remote (and other users test also) and it's working fine. Fine means you can change between screens, etc It's true sometimes there is some lag (it's normal also because the remote and other extensions aren't priviliged apps) but it's useful most of the time.
Please, one question... when remote have lags, coud you see if the time is running (the clock in the left side). I had problems with remote and we had these problems, the clock isn't running fine (for exemple, 10:00 next update 10:10.. not updated every second)
@Andreas
Please try when you're using your gps (for example with the bike). Kremote is off in normal pages ;) Is this working now?

Many thanks for fast reply. One question: what do you mean with „map key“. Is it the menu where I configure e. g. Page right or page left etc.
If so nothing happens. Learning keys: what fo I have to do here: just press and wait?I have tested the usage w/o gps signal. I believe this is not needed. Right?
Thanks for support.
Last question: do you know a button which works 100%. I am open to order.
Thanks again

Hello, i cannot test with this remote, but I'm working in a new release (code is in github but I've to test more to deliver the app) with some perfomance improvements, with a new learning systema and with a complete debug system. I'll try to check this weekend if the app is working fine, i'll deliver new version next monday.

Same for me, after download it detects my garmin button and pairs bugt nothing else. When pressing a button, the button starts flashing green but ends red and nothing happens on Karoo. I would really appreciate if it would work or anybody can recommend a button that’s work. I need just one but best would be two just fur page change.
