GPS tracking issues
AnsweredI've experienced some serious anomalies with the GPS tracking.
In this photo, the top grey track is a trail that is actually BELOW the straighter grey trail rendered on the map:

In this photo, I followed the same trail returning home as I rode out, except for one small exception that you see on the bottom of the map where there is an extra straight line jutting out and back, which I did NOT ride:

In this photo, there is an interesting triangular portion added to the left (off trail in bushes), that is incorrect:

Lastly, I found this interesting - as my Karoo was sitting in my home, the location charted by the GPS was erratically shown as if my unit was bouncing off all my house walls:

If you need a fit file to examine the issue, please let me know,
Tom

I'm having what I think may be a similar issue. On a ride last Saturday following a route url imported from 'Ride With GPS' the GPS track was way off the road in several places (enough that Strava didn't recognize several segments) and I got repeated TbT directions to make a U-turn to return to the road I was already on.
My thought at the time was that it was a combination of intermittent loss of GPS lock (the ride was on a road through a coastal redwood forest and the canopy completely blocks out the sky in spots) and/or GPS location anomalies related to the interference from the trees.
If HH support wants the route and fit files, send me an email and I'll forward them.

I get this problem all the time whenever the gps signal is weakened by the presence of trees, buildings, tunnels etc. One time in Italy, the Karoo showed me as 500m away from where I actually was. All gps devices suffer from this a bit but the Karoo is particularly bad. The way to fix it is to turn the Karoo off and do a restart. It then quickly finds its true position. I have complained about this several times but nothing has been done. For me, it is the biggest remaining deficiency with the Karoo.

I got similar today on my first ride.
The GPS doesn't appear to be as good as what I had in my Bryton but it seems good enough, in buildings etc you expect poor reception.
The device should be able to detect incorrect readings, if not by the positions reported accuracy then by the impossibility of the speed or just because we haven't moved when we eventually start riding again and it doesn't pause auto pause again. So between when it first autopaused and last autopaused (without "significant positional displacement") should be removed.
In any case I think for major stops I'll be manually pausing in future as the device does a good job of letting you know the status.

Hi all, is there any update available on this topic? I just recognize those GPS reception issues since a couple of weeks. It appears on longer rides after a rest of more than 15 or 20 minutes. GPS locates me then next to the street i am riding and then after a few hundred meters, sometimes also kilometers, the signal is weak, then lost, then weak, then completely gone. I made alos the experience that if you switch GPS in the sensor menue off and on again, the record is totally gone! This is what i absolutely not expect from this device. The only chance to get back the GPS signal is to reboot.
Would be nice to hear from you.
Thx and best regards from Seoul
Sascha
