0.0km total distance route
AnsweredI had earlier been playing around with various tools; Ride with GPS, Hammerhead Dashboard, and Google Maps, to create routes that I can use in the Netherlands. A while back I created a "home-point" which had a total route distance of 1m and I have successfully used that many times to get home after a freebie-type fun ride - no destination just on the bike lanes and ride. With my experience using "home-point" I have stopped trying to create routes and now I just use the Hammerhead Dashboard route builder to create "points". I have only been in the Netherlands for a few years now so I do not know my way around so what I have been doing is selecting towns and cities that I want to visit and creating 0.0km routes in ROUTE BUILDER. To do this you just find where you want to go and double click on a good spot and then save that "route".

This point is Weener, Germany, which is over 30km from my home. When I started out today I just selected this route on the Karoo and rode off - not into the sunset! During this ride I made about four wrong turns at bike road intersections and just decided to keep going to see what was what. Each time the Karoo went into the rerouting mode to get me where I wanted to go. When I started home from Weener I just rode around for quite a while enjoying the sites until it was time to really head home. At that time I went in to the Karoo and selected the "Home - point" route and was immediately rerouted back to my home which was well over 30km from Weener. No problem at all.

Hi William,
We understand that you are creating 0 km routes and use them as ways to navigate back after you do your free rides. This is certainly a unique way of creating routes and using re-routing to get back to a particular point.
However, we have the option of setting up the POIs(Points of Interest) on our Dashboard which will be an easier method for this use case.
Check out these articles - Adding Points Of Interest (POI) on the Dashboard, Importing Points of Interest(POI) from RideWithGPS, Navigating to Points of Interest(POI), Take me Home (POI) and Red, Blue and Purple Routes.
