Feature request: Control ant+ lights
CompletedHi,
I recently got a Bontrager Ion Pro RT and a Flare RT and while it's firmly "nice to have" I quite like the idea of having the lights automatically switch on as soon as I start a ride. Is it planned to add that ANT+ protocol?
Thanks in advance!

+1 for ANT+ lighting control - like many I use the Ion 200 RT front light and RTL510 rear radar light - it would be great to not only have both lights come on/off automatically when I start/end a ride with last mode setting remembered but also be able to control the mode of each light and monitor battery levels. This is one key area where the Karoo 2 is losing out to the Edge 1030.

now scheduled for the release on March 11th
Well, March 11th came and went with no software update and - worse than that - no communication to the Community on why there was no expected software update this week.
I'm not bothered about turning my Karoo 2 into a £350 Ant+ lightswitch; I just want a reliable cycle computer that doesn't crash.

I came to learn - from another thread - that the 11th March release has been pushed back to 25th March. So you're going to have to wait a bit longer to get your Ant+ lightswitch.
My priority at this time would be ensuring the software stability issues are fixed: It's a minor inconvenience to have to turn lights on manually; it's a greater inconvenience when your Karoo/rides app crashes mid-ride resulting in data loss.
Yes, communication with owners needs to improve as well. Any news is better than no news.

Okay, so apparently today's release includes the ANT+ light support, great!
However, it seems we can now only turn on the lights when we start a ride, and turn them off when we finish the ride? I don't think this is ideal, because I often leave my light on my bike, and I wouldn't want to have it turned on during the day.
I was expecting to have a new type of page and have controls like Garmin has, so we can set it to a specific mode with buttons, off/on/high/med/low/flash/flash-daytime, etc. I'm rebooting my device after the update so I'm not sure yet, but from the changelog it sounds like it doesn't do this. Is that a feature we can request? Even at night I never ride with the same light mode. In the city I drive with lowest setting, but in the middle of nowhere where I can't blind people, I tend to have my light at a brighter setting, and when I'm waiting somewhere at an intersection, I would turn it to a low brightness with flash.
Edit, yep that's right. You can select the mode the light starts in, and that's it. You can't change it afterwards during your right via the Karoo.
Let's all get the attention for this feature! It's a nice start, but still lacking the fundamental controls.
It would also be cool if you could set the mode to something else when you stop biking (when the karoo pauses the ride). If I could set it to mode x when I pause, and then continue to mode y when I bike again, that would be epic.

Let's close this feature request and mark it as completed considering the engineering team did a great job!
I was delighted trying this out! Thank you so much!
To collect ideas regarding other types of control / information we should create a new feature request. To reduce the comments regarding the "general support" of ANT+ lights! What do you folks this? :)
Thanks again! Cheers from Hamburg!

Agreed! I'll make a new request.

Hi All, this was our first implementation of the smart lights, and there is a lot of scopes for us to take this forward. Some of the changes you will see in the next updates.
@Pawel - yes, we have tested it on the Bontrager ANT+ lights and it works fine. Could you please try and reboot the unit once?

This is awesome! Question, am I correct in assuming this will work regardless of whether I buy the Ion Elite/Flare City set, or the more expensive Ion Pro/Flare set? The demo video on the changelog looks like the Pro/Flare but I was going to buy the cheaper option if it will still work the same.
