Companion app - QR code on Karoo 3 not recognized

Hi, 

working with an older Huawei Mate 20 lite phone, after freshly installing the companion app I simply cannot get the app to recognize the QR code displayed on my Karoo 3 in the "phone pairing" setting. Does anyone have a solution?
