Do you need speed sensor to get accurate distance recorded on K2?
Hi, just reading through the questions here as I wait to get my K2 delivered in the next couple of days. But just wanted to check if the speed sensor is required in order to get distance etc? I did not need this when I use Garmin 830 and have Stages Dual PM and just relied on GPS for distance and speed data. But I was reading through some of the comments and got confused.... as some suggesting to input circumference of wheels to get correct distance and auto-calibration etc as well as speed sensor....
You don't need one to get distance and speed accurately recorded right?
Thanks!

If you're going to use a speed sensor - read about it's use at 'Known Bugs and Issues':

Has anyone checked the accuracy of speed / distance with/without speed sensor? If isn't wildly inaccurate without it, goodbye Speed Sensor (i just assumed it was needed, from my time with a Garmin 830 since it came supplied with sensors!)
Never even crossed my mind not to use a speed sensor, but one less ANT+ (or BLE) connection is a good thing, and i only just came across the auto calibrated circumference being wrong recently.

*) Over calculation of Distance/Inaccurate auto-wheel circumference calculation ( greater than 2% - 3% error): The issue is more prominent on some specific brands of sensors. We are collecting more information to find the root cause or any related pattern. Please share the details of your setup on this form “Auto-wheel circumference inaccuracies”

As of now, use a manual calibration for more accurate distance calculation.

When I'm on a road ride, my Karoo 2 records very accurate distance using the GPS sensor. But when I am riding on a mountain bike trail, with lots of twists and turns and heavy tree cover, the distance is under-recorded by as much as 10%. So I always use a manually calibrated speed sensor on my mountain bike.

Does anyone know the response time to the head unit for speed readings between GPS and a Speed Sensor? I found that while descending rather fast and slowing down down for corners the GPS seems to lag in what actual speed I am going. Today I will use the speed sensor. Is it possible to turn off the GPS for speed readings?

Didn't really need a separate post so thought I'd just ask here: I use a Garmin Speed Sensor and the readings i get are a bit odd. It always goes in steps. So on a steep climb I could get 5.4/6.6/7.8/9.0/10.2 for example, but nothing in between. It will just fluctuate between these numbers. It matters less for higher speeds but on the climbs it gets a bit annoying. Anyone else who has noticed this?
I guess I'll try riding with GPS alone, see what happens. But in my experience these readings can be off as well (esp on slow climbs or of course under tree cover/in cities)
