Climber confusion
AnsweredI'm in the early days of using K2 and still haven't used Climber even though I think I have it turned on in Settings.
The help page for Climber says : "CLIMBER can detect climbs on regular Routes, routes-to-POIs, and reroutes." So, does this mean it *will not* show upcoming climbs if I'm riding but not following any specific previously defined Route or Ride? ie: exploring. I love using the map on the K2 when I'm out exploring for showing me where various roads may lead and would love to have Climber similarly come up to show if the road chosen has a big incline.
Does Climber require anything special connection-wise? Usually, I have the app running on my cell so I get text messages but is the app required to be running or not? Basically, I'm not sure why I haven't been able to play with the Climber function. (local area has few hills but enough that would be >500m and reasonably steep grades)
thanks.

It it does require a defined route to be loaded, whether that’s a pre-defined route or a routing to a POI. I believe the Garmin version works in a similar way, and that it’s because a “climb” may have multiple route options, so the device needs to know which one it is following. Or something like that 😃. There are also criteria for minimum distance and gradient for Climber to kick in. Like you I like to do a bit of exploring and ended up picking points on the map to navigate to next and the Climber feature was great for getting the heads up on the climbs on new roads.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for posting! As Gareth has rightly pointed out the Karoo would require a route loaded for the climber tab to pop up before a climb.
We are working on improving the routing logic on the Karoo and we do aspire to be able to provide a feature of the climber where you would not need to loaf a route at all. This however would be a little more into the future as we are doing our best in bringing overall optimization & reliability on the Karoo platform.
