I'm using the Duotrap S with few problems, however there have been a couple of times when one or other sensor in it did not provide data. Sensor vs. magnet position and/or the CR2032 battery level were to blame each time. Overall it does work fine with the K2 so keep at it. I did change from a Silver Oxide to Lithium battery months ago and it's still solid as a rock now so I would recommend that little "improvement".

Thanks for the response, battery is showing about 50%, but will try a change and see if that helps

I'm going to say that's below an acceptable level from my experience. Let me/us know if that was the cause if you will.

Cheers and all the best in 2022,

    Bob

Unfortunately, new battery still didn't make any difference. Still no speed showing, Back to the drawing board! Ironically I have another Trek with the later speedtrap sensor and it works fine with the Karoo, problem only lies with the older Duotrap.

Well that's no good. Any chance you have another head unit or mobile app to try pairing with to make certain the Duotrap is still sending speed values? I purchased my Duotrap S in the fall of 2018 to give you some idea of it's vintage.

I've also got a Garmin 1030 and it works fine with that so the Duotrap would appear to be working OK. Will keep tinkering and see what transpires. Thanks for the responses so far and happy new year to you

All the best to you too David and good luck in finding the gremlin! One last kick at the can, did you try a factory reset of the K2? I suspect you have.

For anyone with similar issues, I resolved the problem. Turns out, the standard Bontrager Wheel magnet was not strong enough, or not close enough (essentially weak signal) for the Duotrap unit. Added another magnet on top of it to close the gap to around 2mm and all is well. Interestingly enough, this is not a problem with the Garmin head unit, so not sure why the Hammerhead unit required the stronger signal from the wheel magnet?

An educated guess on my part would be the that the sensor/switch in the Duotrap was not "closing" reliably with each wheel revolution and that the Karoo was seeing too many data drops to consider the speed reading valid. The Garmin's firmware may smooth the data across a slightly longer number of samples therefore allowing a reading on it's display. My earlier suggestion of changing the battery could potentially have the same sort of effect, erratic data and therefore no readings.
