Bontrager Duotrap
AnsweredHave a slight problem with this sensor, the Karoo 2 recognises the duotrap as a bluetooth sensor and correctly shows the cadence numbers, however it is not showing speed? Any thoughts? Thanks

I'm using the Duotrap S with few problems, however there have been a couple of times when one or other sensor in it did not provide data. Sensor vs. magnet position and/or the CR2032 battery level were to blame each time. Overall it does work fine with the K2 so keep at it. I did change from a Silver Oxide to Lithium battery months ago and it's still solid as a rock now so I would recommend that little "improvement".

For anyone with similar issues, I resolved the problem. Turns out, the standard Bontrager Wheel magnet was not strong enough, or not close enough (essentially weak signal) for the Duotrap unit. Added another magnet on top of it to close the gap to around 2mm and all is well. Interestingly enough, this is not a problem with the Garmin head unit, so not sure why the Hammerhead unit required the stronger signal from the wheel magnet?

An educated guess on my part would be the that the sensor/switch in the Duotrap was not "closing" reliably with each wheel revolution and that the Karoo was seeing too many data drops to consider the speed reading valid. The Garmin's firmware may smooth the data across a slightly longer number of samples therefore allowing a reading on it's display. My earlier suggestion of changing the battery could potentially have the same sort of effect, erratic data and therefore no readings.
