    Hi All,

There is an update for you. With the recent release, you can now follow routes that are longer than 500km. Previously, routes this long (or longer) would not work correctly on Karoo.

    Thank you!

Same for me. Imported a route from Strava into the Dashboard, edited it there, saved. Then on my Karoo2, cannot use this route - stuck on the yellow tab "preparing route" forever (also seem to slow down the unit).

Doesn't happen for non-Strava routes, maybe related.

IMO should be treated as a high priority bug

Are these routes longer than 500km? To avoid any Navigation and Map crashes mid-ride, there is a limit of 500Km. Please let me know if this issue happens on shorter routes as well. In that case, please share the GPX files with us in an email to support@hammerhead.io.

Thank Ali for looking into this! I figured out what happened, it was because I was inside my house without reception. When I stepped outside, the "preparing route" state (with infinite rolling circle UI) changed immediately, and it calculated how to get to the start of the route + the actual route.

    I guess my asks are:

    1) When loading a route without a gps reception (e.g. at home night before a ride) it would be super useful that the device will not hang in a "preparing route" status, and instead assume located at route start-point, and show all route info (e.g. map, climbs, etc). This is really important! allowing proper preparation, maybe manually add a few poi's, etc.

    2) When there is gps reception, the device always calculates the route from current location to start-point of actual route. This is useful in many cases, but also inconvenient in other cases - will be great of can choose whether this extra routing will be done or not. (I also guess this is what caused the "preparing route" problem, because without gps reception it could not calculate this part)

    Thanks!

Thanks for confirming, Oren. Yes, a GPS fix is important for the routes to load and calculate. I will include your feedback with our note to product team. I can't say assuming a GPS location would be an ideal solution, since riders travel across the world exploring new routes. But we are sure to improve and get it better with the warnings and options.

Same “preparing route” issue for me, but this is on ACA East Coast segments. I am assuming they are larger than the limited size. Not very useful limits if one can’t drop popular segments into them for cross-country travels.

Same issue on my last 2 rides, for a 40km and 400km route loaded from komoot.
Last update 2 weeks ago, Do I need to reset?

    Hi Bijit,

I made another try yesterday, same issue so
I try to upload a route planned on Hammerhead dashboard as you recomended in your email.
    No problem with it,

so I try to use the same route wich caused me an issue. No problem anymore.

Looks like using a "Hammerhead planned" route solved the problem.

    regards

    Bijit:

In my case I know the issue is file size.  The several routes that make up the ACA Atlantic Route each cover hundreds of miles.  When I split the routes up into daily routes, they loaded properly and have the turn by turn directions as well as the climb info.  HERE IS MY SUGGESTION—if someone loads a file too large, the system should prompt the user with a notice rather than just spin forever, something like “Your route file size is too large and turn by turn directions and climb information will not work unless the file size is reduced”.  Just leaving a process spinning and not informing your users of this obscure issue is NOT an acceptable outcome.

Hi Craig and Matthieu, could you please confirm if these problematic routes were built on Komoot and then imported on the Dashboard?

Had the same issue yesterday! Built a route on Komoot and synced it with Hammerhead (dashboard) while I was still at home. This worked as expected. Then I got out of the door, loaded the route on the K2 and it was showing the route but not turn by turn instructions worked. The yellow drawer just showed „preparing route“ infinitely! Also reloading while I was riding, restarting etc. did not help! Was quite annoying…

Hi Jewl, removing the offline maps and re-downloading them worked for few riders. Could you please try that and let us know if the same routes gives you trouble again? We are trying to gather data right now, but we have a bug reported to the developers already. Thanks for the help!

    Hi Ali,

I have removed all offline data, resynced it again and still for some routes it behaves strangely! I try to indicate whether it is working after the loading of the route when checking the "remaining distance" field. Sometimes it says 3km even though the whole route has 100+km. And the above mentioned route cannot be loaded at all (remaining distance stays at 0, preparing route remains as well).

    Thanks,
    Julian

    hi
Problem solved, below the different steps that drive me to solution
Preparing a 60km route from komoot - nok
Preparing a 60km route from hammerhead - ok
Preparing the same 60km route from komoot - ok
Preparing a 100km route from komoot - ok
    No problem anymore
    Thanks

    Hi Matthieu,
Thanks for your solution. I have the same problem today and your solution works fine.
    Everything works again.

Hi, I have the same problem - all routes synced from Komoot stopped working. They did work in April, but then something happened in May. I did reset my device to factory settings, downloaded the map again, it didn't help. I have tried several routes, 20-40 km long, none of them works (and they did work before). The test route created from Hammerhead site works.

    Any suggestion, please?

I‘m new to Karoo 2 and most my routes (imported from Komoot) get stuck with preparing route as well. Can you please fix this? It’s so frustrating. Happy to provide examples.

Hatte gehofft, das ihr nicht die selben Fehler wie Garmin macht. Leider muss ich feststellen das Dinge welche perfekt funktioniert haben auf einmal nicht mehr funktionieren. Bitte schnell eine Lösung finden!

Hi All, we have identified the root cause of the issue and have fixed it for the next update. This tends to happen if the imported route has free hand section at the start or the end of the route.

The same problem again. The solution with loading a route planed with hammerhead only helps one time. There must be a bug importing a route from Komoot. Had no problems until a few weeks ago. Please undo the changes during the import. Testing before each ride whether it works or not is no fun. Load a Hammerhead route then one from Komoot can't be the desired solution from Hammerhead.

@Ali:  I'm eagerly awaiting the update.

    I have the same problem.
Moreover I've switched from the Garmin Edge Explore, and on this device navigation works slow, but pretty well. The new device - Karoo 2 cannot prepare event first navigation route. I'm shocked, I thought that this feature works well on Karoo, but if there is a problem with things like that I'm starting to regret switching from Garmin. Frustrating...

I found a solution to fix it. Delete existing map on the device and download it again. This helped me. Now everything works

Still no update? Very disappointing. Most basic function of this device does not work at all. Maybe some reviews revealing this customer handling help to speed up the fixing process. Its not like a minor flaw. We can't use the device at all for most imported routes!  And thats happening in major bike season. Very frustrated

Hi All, we are working to improve the Data-field visibility and legibility since the last update was not a popular one among the community members. Unfortunately, we had to skip the update process yesterday for this bug fix as well. We expect the next version to be released on June 29th.

I've just installed the new update and it seemed to fix the problem. I've checked a couple of routes and they show navigation.
