+1. The previously used zoom of the map screen should be retained!

+1 the current behavior seems more like a bug

When I tried out the new mode to investigate a different issue ( https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/community/posts/9065233481371-Bug-Navigation-cues-break-north-is-up-map-orientation (with pictures)) I didn’t notice any changes in the map zoom level but I was using an unusually big zoom level (10 km across or so) to begin with.

The zoom level you have in that post looks to be about the same as what it reverts to after each turn (Z in my example above), but it's interesting that it also loses the orientation as well. If it's not retaining either setting (and others?) then it definitely feels more like a bug than a design choice.

Hi All, I have reported this finding with our team internally for consideration. We will also keep a watch on the number of reports coming from other riders.

    Hi Sandy,

The zoom level is retained, after the turns and switch back to Data screen. However, I would like to understand two questions in relation to the Zoom level.

1- Were there several Quick turns on your route?
2 - Were you interacting with the screen during the switch to map and back to data screen?

In regards to the Orientation, this should also be retained, unless the map was unlocked.

In my case (with the orientation problems) the map was locked and I did not interact with the unit at all after setting the orientation and magnification and selecting the route. The turns at the test part of my route were pretty close (200–300 m apart) but the map did always zoom out for a couple of seconds until the next cue.

    No, and no.

I appreciate you confirming that the zoom level *should* be retained, but that isn't what I experienced on my ride. It appears that other people saw the same issue as well.

I'll turn the feature back on and see what it does next time.

    Hi Sandy,

Thanks for confirming. If this continues to happen on your next ride, please share the GPX file and the FIT file of your ride with us over an email to support@hammerhead.io. Also, let us know the specific locations in the ride so we know the point of failure.

I don't know if it is relevant or not but when the error occurred I had turned the switch-to-map feature on after already starting the ride.

I had this same issue today during my ride.

For what it’s worth, I tried the auto map function again to check on the orientation issue (still there) and the map did always return to the previous zoom level (2x2 or 4x4 km) except for one time where it stayed on the really close zoom level even after a navigation cue went away and didn’t change for several cues (and kilometres) until I changed it back again.

I have found this zoom bug as well. More annoyingly, if you have the feature turned on but are following the map already, it changes the zoom automatically. I kept manually returning it but a few hundred meters up the road, the zoom has changed again. This switch to map feature is ace… but respecting the user set zoom out make this a more usable feature for me. 👍

Thanks, Sandy. Thanks for the insights. We have reported this with the Software team to find a reproducible steps for the fix. We have also found that North Up orientation isn't retained after the Switch-to-map in-ride.
