Setup: How to wear the Heart Rate Monitor:
• Attach the sensor pod to the chest strap using the push snap connectors on the front of the strap; the sensor pod will snap onto the connector securely.
• Adjust the strap to fit your lower chest so that it is tight, yet breathable and comfortable.
• Moisten the electrodes using a small amount of water, saliva, or electrode heart rate gel to improve the connection and activate the sensor.
• The Heart Rate Monitor uses on-chest detection to activate, and when a heartbeat is detected, the LED light will flash red.
Pairing:
How to pair your Heart Rate Monitor to Karoo:
1. Put on your Heart Rate Monitor following the instructions above, by wearing the chest belt, it will automatically wake up with on-chest heart rate detection.
2. Hammerhead suggests using ANT+ for better battery life on the Karoo.
3. Follow the pairing instructions on your Karoo by searching for <H> Heart Rate “XXXX” (where X is a random number) in the sensors app.
4. Once paired, there is no need to manually pair your Heart Rate Monitor every time, it will automatically pair when the heart rate monitor is next activated.

How to pair your Heart Rate Monitor to a Bluetooth Smartphone / Watch:
1. Download your chosen fitness app.
2. Open/Install the app on your Smartphone/device.
3. Put on your Heart Rate Monitor following the instructions above. Blue LED lights will flash, indicating the heart rate monitor is in advertising mode. When paired, the Blue LED will stop flashing.
4. Look for the sensors icon on your app or follow the sensor pairing instructions on your chosen device.
5. When you have found the Heart Rate Monitor select ‘add sensor’ or ‘save sensor’ if applicable on the app.
Maintenance:
Sensor longevity: Get the most out of your Heart Rate strap by gently rinsing it with warm water after every ride. Disconnect the sensor pod from the strap before rinsing it and hanging it to dry.
Battery life: A great way to extend your battery life is to disconnect the Heart Rate sensor POD from the strap when not using it. An alternative is only to disconnect one of the contacts, which keeps the strap and pod together and reduces the chance of them being separated.
Minimum chest size: If you have a chest size smaller than 68cm (27"), we suggest using a different aftermarket strap.
Strap replacements or alternatives: The sensor pod can work with most heart rate sensor straps, so if for any reason it is uncomfortable, misfitting or damaged, you can try an aftermarket alternative.
Data reliability: In some conditions, mainly cold, windy weather, when skin is dry due to a lack of sweat, the sensors can be less consistent. The best way to improve performance is to add moisture before the workout and wear the strap quite tight. If readings continue to be unreliable, which can rarely be the case depending on your physiology, we suggest using a conductive gel or switching the sensor pod onto a strap that is known to work for you.
If, for some reason, the ANT+ connection is unreliable in your home or due to the equipment you have, we suggest trying to pair all sensors over Bluetooth; this will only create a marginal additional battery drain to your KAROO 2. The best way to do this is to pair all sensors on ANT+ OR Bluetooth and not a mix of the two.
