Warranty should cover this. We should not have to pay for a new shell to solve Hammerhead's design flaw.

Should all that we had a problematic button pay 50eur for a new case which solves a design issue with the initial product?

    Hello everyone,
Let me help clarify things for everyone. If you would like to purchase a new Karoo shell, you can directly purchase from our website. For riders who are experiencing issues such as sticky buttons during rides, please reach out to our support team directly. We’ll be happy to assist you, and in such scenarios, we are offering a free black shell.

Time will tell if this resolves the problem, but the install is super easy, and the feel is different, from the sharply defined click of the OE shell when the power button worked, to a more muted but positive click.

    @Bhagyashree:

can you tell us if the new shell has gone through any redesign, so the issue will not appear anymore? Maybe is the problem in the button it self, which is underneeth the shell. Just asking. Would be cool if you write some explanation which exact changes has been made. Thank you for understanding.

I took a look at mine, it's the white button under the rubber where the power button presses, the rubber is worn out and the white button is visible and no longer stable.

Just received a new black shell (via support team) which should solve the button issue. So far visibly there's absolutely no difference between the original and updated version. Not in color, not in form, not in tolerance feel. Not in any kind of way.

Hopefully I'm the one not seeing the solution/difference and the stickiness will disappear.

    Fingers crossed.

I've also received the shell that's supposed to eliminate the sticky button problem. I was very careful to compare the old and the new and frankly I saw absolutely no difference so I do not know what has been changed. However, after installing the new shell, the buttons worked just as they did when I unpacked my Karoo five months ago. So I don't know what to think: will I be back to where I started in 5 months, or has anything really changed?

I am having the issue with my Karoo 3.  Is there a solution to this nagging problem?

could someone verify that the sticky button issue is resolved with the new shell? I'm still having this problem but reluctant to go through the process of warranty for a 3rd time. thanks.

Yes, I can. In my case, the replacement shell with buttons does work properly. I have the impression, that the tolerances for the power button are more generous, therefore it moves easier and does not stick.

Wolfgang - how difficult was it to replace the shell on the Karoo 3?  Thank you

Andy Basacchi: It takes five minutes if you go slooow and carefully. I have had my new shell for longer enough than it took for the problem to manifest itself on the K3, which makes me think the new shell is the ticket.

Kevin Williams - I appreciate the confirmation.  Will get one ordered now and attempt the replacement.

It's not at all difficult. The kit contains everything required, even an appropriate screwdriver. There's a video available on YouTube, if You follow these steps, it's simple. The worst that can happen, is, if You remove the old shell, the buttons from the side may fall out. But they are fixed on the new shell, so no problem here. If You watch the video first, it takes You 5 minutes at the most.

I can confirm that the shell replacement is simple and quick. However, the side buttons were a bit loose and caused a rattling sound. Solved with electric tape (hopefully permanent), but given that the shells retail for €50, this is terrible.

I did this once - it's easy but theirs a degree of intricacy involved also needed 👍

So this started happening to me and I wondered if anybody else was having this problem…. did a search and “boom” seems to be a known problem/issue.

I will be reaching out to Hammerhead tomorrow. I hope they’re able to resolve my issue, under warranty. I’ve been using the unit for less than six months.

Hi Alex:  I can now confirm that the replacement shell does work.  It is not too complex to replace and the problem does go away. You should be OK with the warranty claim as I think most warranties are up to one year.
