Search offline maps on device without Internet connection - bug or works as dessigned ??
AnsweredHi there,
there is no possybility to search offline map on device without interneten connection (details from discussion with support below) - is it a BUG or works as designed ??
Please note that:
- city streets names are already downloaded on device and are visible in map mode and on TBT without Internet connection
- based on Garmin and Wahoo simillar devices user manual their maps are searchable without net connection
- last but not least - what is purpose to have touch screen and virtual keyboard on it without ability to search map
Based on support it works as design , and they just updated docs in FAQ that you need net connection.
Maybe my brain not working properly but for me it is a BUG .... Regards, Piotr

Piotr W Jul 14, 2020, 5:07 PM GMT+5:30 Based on documentation search city, street on map on Karoo device should be possyible in off line mode (no internet conn) under condition that Karoo have downloaded particular region map on to storge. Sorry but its not working. Based on docs " Pre-requisite: Must have Offline Maps downloaded. Click here to know more. Here are the steps to create a route on your Karoo: Open the Routes app. Dear Help Desk - please help me ;-) ------------------ |

If you have the route loaded on the Karoo and the offline maps available, you would not need the internet connection for navigation. However, if you wish to navigate by creating a route on the Karoo (offline route creation) or search by address then it's not added right now as we are working on it currently.
We have kick-started our bigger offline Routing project with Route to Destination (Offline) and Take me Home (POI) features.

Hari,
thanks for the answers. All links and explanations can be more or less useful workarounds to my issue.
To give you practical insight - during cross country ride, eg deep in the forrest due to road or weather conidtions or other changes I need quite often to change planned route, find some spot etc.etc., in the forrest there is always poor or no cellular coverage, so I am not able to search downoladed map on most common and ease way.
As I mentioned before - lack of offline serach on device map its quite strange from technical, UX and competitevness point of view.
Hope that offline routing project which you mentioned will deliver this what I need to my cycling hapinnes, sooner or later (sooner I prefer of course ;-) )
Take care
Piotr

This still seems not to work without internet connection. To me this is a major downside. Also I think unit should be able to connect to internet via mobile phone. This is -1 on my over device rating, super annoying. Also the way you select destination is cery confusing and opposite of how it works on any other map products

"Also I think unit should be able to connect to internet via mobile phone."
It certainly can, just turn on hotspot on phone and turn wifi back on on Karoo and it will automatically connect (well, you have to do it manually the first time obviously).
That's one swipe and two taps on my phone, and one swipe and one tap on the Karoo so takes less than ten seconds.
I use a sim now though cause I'm lazy and they're cheap. -
@Joen, I think you missed the point. Both the original post and PeterW are referring to using this feature without an internet connection (no hotspot and no SIM). I agree this also seems to be a major shortcoming of an otherwise great device. I sometimes wonder how much the PM team at Hammerhead actually use the Karoo 2 in a way a none superuser would.

Hi guys, this point is really annoying… it makes the karoo useless for me.
Do you have the same problem while offline navigating? you can choose your start point, and then your destination… and than the karoo flips back to the main menu.@Hammerhead: In my mind its a priority bug - when will you fix it???
