If you have the route loaded on the Karoo and the offline maps available, you would not need the internet connection for navigation. However, if you wish to navigate by creating a route on the Karoo (offline route creation) or search by address then it's not added right now as we are working on it currently.

We have kick-started our bigger offline Routing project with Route to Destination (Offline) and Take me Home (POI) features.

    Hari,

thanks for the answers. All links and explanations can be more or less useful workarounds to my issue.

To give you practical insight - during cross country ride, eg deep in the forrest due to road or weather conidtions or other changes I need quite often to change planned route, find some spot etc.etc., in the forrest there is always poor or no cellular coverage, so  I am not able to search downoladed map on most common and ease way.

As I mentioned before - lack of offline serach on device map its quite strange from technical, UX and competitevness point of view.

Hope that offline routing project which you mentioned will deliver this what I need to my cycling hapinnes, sooner or later (sooner I prefer of course ;-) )

    Take care

    Piotr

This still seems not to work without internet connection. To me this is a major downside. Also I think unit should be able to connect to internet via mobile phone. This is -1 on my over device rating, super annoying. Also the way you select destination is cery confusing and opposite of how it works on any other map products

"Also I think unit should be able to connect to internet via mobile phone."
It certainly can, just turn on hotspot on phone and turn wifi back on on Karoo and it will automatically connect (well, you have to do it manually the first time obviously).
That's one swipe and two taps on my phone, and one swipe and one tap on the Karoo so takes less than ten seconds.
I use a sim now though cause I'm lazy and they're cheap.

@Joen, I think you missed the point. Both the original post and PeterW are referring to using this feature without an internet connection (no hotspot and no SIM). I agree this also seems to be a major shortcoming of an otherwise great device. I sometimes wonder how much the PM team at Hammerhead actually use the Karoo 2 in a way a none superuser would.

    Totally agree on this subject

Hammerhead  should implement proper offline navigation, just like basically all other navigation systems in the market offer.

Also when your home and on WiFi maps cannot locate your position without gps signal. In effect you can't set starting point and create route from starting point on the device, I'd say this is a bug and quite annoying one

Hi guys, this point is really annoying… it makes the karoo useless for me.
Do you have the same problem while offline navigating? you can choose your start point, and then your destination… and than the karoo flips back to the main menu.

@Hammerhead: In my mind its a priority bug - when will you fix it???
