Karoo2 notifications not working?
AnsweredHi all, today finally got my karoo2 unit!!
The configuration process is ridiculosly easy, wifi, loign and pass and magically all your data, profiles, syncs without any effort. Great work!!
But... I installed the companion app on my phone, then paired with karoo2, app permissions on phone are all granted... then I go for a ride this afternon to test the unit and I got no notifications at all. Looked at my phone again, the companion app was open, no battery saving on that app, everything looks correct (just the same as the Ga$min companion app), but can't receive any notification from the phone in ride.
I tryed again to unpair phone, then pair again, uninstall app on phone and reinstall, clean cache.... etc.... but still nothing.
Got the latest update on karoo2 (v1.174.947.12).
I looked into karro2 unit, app info is showing "phone pairing" app installed and it is running in background, app notifications are enabled, everything seems ok. I'm using a Samsung Note 20 Ultra with android 10.
Don't know how to solve this. Anyone is experiencing this problem?
Update: I have created a new profile to see if it solves the issue, but still no notifications at all.

Hey Ruben. Sorry that we could not respond sooner, but great to hear that the factory reset has resolved your issue, and now you are getting your phone notification on your Karoo 2. Besides, here is an article on phone pairing for your reference - https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/360054073194-Android-Smartphone-Notifications
Let us know if there's anything else I can do to walk through the product.

Hi Abhishek,
though I managed to pair and get notifications during a couple of rides, it now stoped working again. I didnt' do any modifications on the phone, the app is still having all permissions and not optimized or killed by android battery management, it seems to be running in background but I don't get any notifications on my karoo2. On karro2 all notification options are activated on phone pairing.
I have done all the steps as shown on the link you wrote again, the phone pairs without problem with karoo2, but no notifications. In the past week I missed all calls, sms, mail notifications, whatsapp, telegram... any notification seems to work now. I think maybe it is a problem with android app on my phone or some additional permission that is needed for the app to run on background correctly.
I know you all will be tired with garmin comparations, but I have the garmin app on phone and never missed a notification, no need to open up the app before every ride, it seems to be running on background without issues. Don't know how to solve this, and I don't want to do a soft-reset on karoo2 before every ride to have this running (in past rides that was the only way to have this feature working).
On the phone I have uninstalled app, cleared cache, data... installed again, paired, rebooted phone, rebooted karoo2... I think I've tryed everything I've can.If you think I should write to support with more data to try to fix this, I will be happy to help if there is any other users with same problem.
Thanks in advance.

Me the same with K2 and s5mini (android9).
Hard job to get the BT running. But its stable connected. But I never get any notification. Not at all. Never worked.
Tried really all, wiping, clear cache. Anything. Did all clear STEP BY STEP several times. No notifications went to Karoo2! Very bad.All permissions are set. With BT, with companion app. All what is possible in the deepest of android!

Been doing some testing on this with an iPhone. If you have any of the “Focus” options enable then calls come through but not txt messages. This happens even if you have allowed the txt application and your list of favourite people.
As soon as you turn off any focus profile the txt works.

Hi folks,
have a similiar issue, but quite a bit different ;-)
When I start a ride, phone is paired, I receive notifications for messages on my Karoo II, but after a certain time this notification just stops. The phone is "beeping" that a new message came in, but it's no longer shown on the Karoo display.
Both devices have the actual Softwarelevels installed ( Phone is Android V12 )
has anyone of you made similar experiences and possibly knows how to fix this bug?
thx
Henryk
Update: in the meantime, no messaging at all on the K2 .. must have been one of the last 2 Updates :-( -
Same here. Notifications are not stable. It works for some time when I reset the connection. Most of the time it does not work at all. It did work fine in the past. It suddenly stopped working at some point. So must be an issue caused by a software update on the karoo or the companion app.

Same here. Notifications have never worked since Xmas, when I got myself a Karoo 2. the unit is wonderful, everything works well, I love it....but phone notifications have never worked, not once. I have tried everything, but nothing. Not even the calls are picked by the karoo. It would be awesome and extremely useful to get notifications on my rides. I love the karoo 2, but I can even love it more with notifications.

Same here. Have tried everything and been in touch with customer support numerous times. Occasionally a text or phone call will come through but usually nothing. I have had numerous Garmin units and they have no issues receiving emails texts etc. This problem along with the recent Shimano license agreement issue is a very big disappointment and not fair for those who bought this unit for the features as advertised. I find customer support fairly useless. They respond quickly but don't seem to be able to resolve issues. Their heart rate strap went defective after several months and they didn't even offer to replace it. I bought a cheap one from China and it works flawlessly.
The email/text problem goes back years so this is obviously something they can't or don't want to fix. It may also be a license issue or a workaround that doesn't work properly. I was promised a fix months ago.
Some people are impressed with the updates every two weeks but I find for the most part they fix bugs that shouldn't be there in the first place. Using customers to test a product is bad policy but very common these days.
Mapping and routing is excellent but other units also do it quite well and with better battery life. The unit really has to be charged after every ride.
Hope they resolve the above issues or Karoo2 will shortly be a paper weight.
