Trade-In Offer (K2 --> K3)
I'm wondering if there is anything in the works to offer a trade-in for existing K2 users to upgrade to the new unit announced today.

I don't get the complaints about the lack of trade-in. Actually, I don't get what's the idea behind the trade-in at all. What do you expect to happen with your trade-in device? It's either they discard it, and then give you whatever discount they think is enough to make you buy the new one. But it's not a very environmentally conscious solution and also not an economically wise one. Or they resell your device but then they'll have extra costs and unlikely to do it at a loss so you're better off selling it yourself.
People say that they expect to get a ~150EUR/USD discount. It seems that you could sell your device for at least this amount but probably more than that.

In the past, Hammerhead ran a trade-in program where a variety of devices could be swapped. I took advantage of this opportunity to trade in an old Garmin that was just collecting dust in my drawer. The age and value of the device determined the discount received on the Karoo 2. I believe most of the comments are likely referring to this previous promotion. -
Companies do all sorts of marketing and promotional tactics at different times for different reasons. There is not guarantee or requirement for promotions to be repeated. The expectation by many that this will occur and when it has not happened, coming to a forum to complain about it is a bad look...but I guess that is the beauty of hiding behind a keyboard. Again, the device was announced 2 days ago. The expectation of instantly getting what one wants is mind boggling.

I understand that they had this program before but it doesn't answer my question about why people expect it and why selling their device 2nd hand isn't a viable substitute. Now I wasn't aware that the previous program applied to non-Hammerhead devices and that did make sense as a marketing tool to convert users from other brands but here people want Hammerhead to pay for their used K2s just because. Again, they either sell it, but then they will offer a worse price than the average 2nd market price or they don't but then it doesn't make sense at all and it's a bad decision. They should just sell it online and pass it on to someone who will be happy with it and order the new one. Problem solved. Not much harder than complaining on online forums but definitely more effective.
Actually selling now makes much more sense than waiting for the trade-in program as the second hand price might decrease if the K3 starts to get good reviews (yes, that's a big if).

You’re preaching to the choir here. I personally find this forum to be overly aggressive at times, with unrealistic expectations. I’ve previously mentioned that Garmin or Wahoo don’t even listen to the suggestions of regular users, let alone implement them. The Karoo 2 that I purchased cannot be compared with the current standard in terms of functionality. There have been numerous additions, which were sometimes initially introduced somewhat clumsily, but the intent is clear. Those who are unwilling to follow this path should simply stick with the established manufacturers and refrain from constant complaints here. For instance, I received a replacement unit for the Roam 2 that only charged up to 96%. The Wahoo support team explained to me that this was completely normal and they failed to understand my objection. Instead of resolving the issue, they offered a refund, which I accepted. Naturally, it would have been nice to receive an upgrade program to switch from the K2 to the K3 - I’m not excluding myself here - but to my knowledge, neither Garmin nor Wahoo have ever conducted such an action. The vehement demand by some for this here is incomprehensible to me.

100%.
I probably would not have traded in my K2. I use it on my indoor trainer with XERT and it works great.
When the K2 issues were impacting my outdoor rides, I switched to Garmin waiting for the day when fixes became available. That time has come and I am anxiously awaiting for my new Karoo to be delivered.

You see determined to dislike the Karoo. Why do you post in the Karoo forums? Seems like a better use of time would be to move on with something that meets your needs and add value in those forums. In the grand scheme, this is an electronic tool that will meet the needs of some and not others. It sounds like you are trying to settle a score with HH and posting your opinions is not going to change anything. Ride your bike with the best tools you can afford and enjoy them.

SRAM / HH nullified both those arguments in the pursuit of consumerism with the K3. If you're going to release a new device make it significantly superior to its predecessor to offset the customer adding their 'obsolete' device to the mountain of e-waste. Trade-in devices are scavenged for parts for either warranty repairs or other long-term repair services so at least they get a second life not immediately discarded in the trash - or in a drawer gathering dust.
